[random downtown nyc]
-just nabbed my explosions in the sky tickets. show is in october and i can't wait!
-wordless music is devoted to the idea that the sound worlds of classical and contemporary instrumental music -- in genres such as indie rock and electronica -- share more in common than conventional thinking might suggest.
-go here for an interview with ben gibbard on the new death cab for cutie album. on first listen its a pretty damn good record and i like it better than "narrow stairs" stand out tracks are "codes and keys" "some boys" "monday morning" and my two favs "doors unlocked and open" (i heart the bits of vocoded vocals. i always heart me some vocoder action) and "you are a tourist"
-stop and shop brand grape soda is pretty friggen delicious. gotta love the generics!
-i decided that i'm going to do situps every afternoon before i go to bed and every night when i get up for work. cuz hoosy is a little flabby these days and i need to be fixing that shit asap! haha
-steve and i were talking about old school wrestlers today and it came up that fucking jake the fucking snake let his snake fucking starve to death! WTFFFF!!!!! how do you starve a snake to death? especially when your NAME and entire PERSONA IS BASED ON SNAAAAAKKKESSSSSSS!!!! steve said it was cuz he was on crack and thats why he forgot to feed it. thats sooo fucking awful. no wonder jake the snake didn't get to be our messiah and macho man did. macho man would have kept us happy and fed with plenty of slim jim's. and for REAL KICKS go to youtube and search "macho man on coke" to see the messiah preaching to us. just to give you a preview of the awesomeness, here's a little video of our lord and savior that i thought you hookers might enjoy....
TOBACCO- gross magik [tobacco is the creative force behind black moth super rainbow and has also released 3 solo records. this track is my favorite from his 2nd album, "fucked up friends" its just as trippy, spaced out, and vocoded as ever and i love the line "you and me melt away forever" some good shit here. bmsr will be on tour this fall and my ass will sooooo be there when they play near me. shit!]

invader is one of my favorite street artists. i was riding in a cab this past weekend and happened to look up at just the right moment to catch a glimpse of this invasion which happens to be on john street in downtown, nyc.
-top 50 cover songs of all time according to gibson
-i found myself talking to my mom about bad lesbian hair the other day. it was hilarious! i defended the old school mullet lesbians cuz really, they don't seem to know any better. but the hipster dykes with asymetrical horror shows residing on top of their heads i went all out on. i love how my mom knew the difference. hahaha.
-listen to the new death cab album courtesy of npr. the album, "codes and keys" comes out 5/31
-i had a productive day today:made more stickers, moved furniture around the house, nabbed the new death cab (i DLd it after streaming it. i have my sources!), chatted a bit with my dear friend dave, and took a walk. yay for productivity!
-explosions in the sky is going on a north american tour this fall and they will be playing in montclair! def excited that they will be in nj...and that the tickets aren't outrageously expensive (they played in nyc last month and the tickets topped $50. no way am i paying that much no matter who it is). they go on sale friday and i'm going to be sure to nab me a pair. maybe i'll ask someone to go with me...or maybe i'll just take steve. we shall see!
-steve and i are going to be taking a road trip to florida to visit madame cokes aka the ruling monarch of cokesylvania (think transylvania, not pennsylvania). we're aiming for september but could potentially go as early as july. not sure yet, but rest assured that there will be plenty of pictures, mayhem, and sticker action to be had whenever it is that we go.
-no jenn anderson, i did not write about lobsters. hahaha.
the anjelah johnson show was super awesomely funny! we had great seats too and were right up front. even better, we got a chance to meet her very briefly and get our picture taken with her! my mom even made her laugh, go mom! take a look....
i think this is a great pic of us, and i'm glad me and my mom, aka the people who aren't professional smilers, turned out looking awesome as well! it was a great time and i can't wait til my mom and i can have a night out like that again.
yeah, now you all know what mama hoos looks like and were hoosatron gets her good looks from. yeah mom!
HOLY FUCK-the pulse [this is probably my favorite HF song and i like a lot of their songs. i am a huge lover of instrumental music and especially am drawn to bands that break the melancholy guitar rock mode. what i love about this song and this band in general is their sound is blipped out, super key/effects heavy, with driving basslines, but that its all done by hand. as in there are no laptops in the mix, at least there weren't when i saw them 4 years ago. this is what makes them brilliant and stand out in a sea of other bands. they have a traditional drum and bass rythem section and the bips, bops, bleeps, and noises are all made by mini keyboards and guitar effect pedals that are manipulated by hand. i loved them before i saw them live but upon seeing that, it was made eternal]

custom art drawn for me by savi, an artist i know. (inverted it in photoshop)
-so um...the world didn't end. guess that guy in california feels like a pretty big ass. haha. or maybe he'll chalk it up to another "mathematical error" like he did when he said this shit would happen in 1994 and then it didn't. i just feel bad for all of the people who drained their life savings to give to this lunatic so he could spread this message to the masses. can they get a refund? haha.
-i played le shok at work the other night. shit yeah son, i don't mess around!
-spray adhesive just may be one of the greatest things ever invented.
-death and taxes- indie music news, pop culture, politics, and entertainment.
-RIP macho man. [i'm not a wrestling fan, but i did watch it a lot as a little kid cuz my brother was/is really into it. he was def somewhat of a childhood icon to me as were a bunch of the old school wrestlers. and yeah yeah, i made jokes about him dying for out sins, but i really am bummed that he died]
-i was at the store yesterday and saw that there is now a suicide girls comic. i didn't read it, just flipped through it, but still...i'm not so sure on this one. haha. perhaps i'll check it out. we'll see.
-my cats are just so thoughtful. i came in my room a few minutes ago to find that one of them had barfed on my bed! yessss!!!! thats even better than when they fling poop out of the litter box onto the floor. awww always thinking of mommy!
ANOTHER SUNNY DAY-anorak city [my god this song is just a little slice of perfection. its got all the things i love in a great poppy twee-y song : fuzzy lofi-ish recording, frantic cleanly guitars, mechanical drums, la la la's, and a lead guitar hook that just won't quit. and don't forget the hand claps! if i had a top list of songs, this would definately be on it. and this is definately on the list to include when making a mix for a lady]

everything gave me the chills
-go here and also here for interviews with explosions in the sky.
-i've been acquiring old metal lunchboxes lately and i must say the art on them is fantastic. i'm really loving the all over print of the design and its a real shame lunchbox companies stopped making them in favor of the crappy plastic once with just a lame sticker on the front. even worse are the dumb softsided ones they have now. bring back the metal bitch! (also hilarious, my a-team box is great cuz it has pics of all the members with guns and two different pics of hannibal smoking a cigar. hey little johnny, take your lunch to school in this shit! fuck yeah!)
-its been so rainy lately and that just pisses me off. the end!
-here is an interview with kimya dawson
-PUZZLE PIECES an mp3 blog focusing on female fronted punk, twee, and hardcore.
-god bless nissin and their 99cent noodles. god fucking bless them!
-someone asked me how i sleep the other day cuz she was amazed that i work overnight. i was a bitch and said "the same way you do. i put my head on my pillow and close my eyes" hahahaha.
PULP-dishes [i first heard this song when i was 18 right as i was beginning to discover a whole other world outside of punk rock. it knocked me down with its force and listening to it 12 years later it still has the same effect on me. the end part where the guitar and keys get all high just kills me every time]

and now i present the 11th edition of the shuffalump!!! this is a special lump that i did on my 30th bday, so it is also the longest one i've done coming in at 31 songs (30 plus 1 to grow on). given that its a lot more songs, i'll be brief with my comments for the most part. as of right now the hoosatronic ipod is up to 21,006 songs and counting! i will have a new shuffalump somewhat soon i hope...i'm thinking it will be themed...but so as to not shoot myself in the foot i will not say what it is until its posted. haha. ok sucka mc's, read on!!!!
JOHN FRUSCIANTE-untitled #4 [from the same man who was in red hot chili peppers...twice. this untitled instrumental track comes from the album "niandra lades and usually just a t-shirt" which reminds me of a musical sketchbook of ideas. this piece last just 1:38 and sounds like a note to self]
THE MUMMIES-she don't care [good, trashy garage rock at its best. i fucking love the mummies!]
DESCENDENTS-iceman [oh man i loved the descendents when i was a teenager! i still have a soft spot for them, however, i was never a fan of this song. this track comes from the album "all" which i was also not so much into as it were]
FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE-leave the biker [this is a cheesy love song. not much more to it. i could take it or leave it]
SLEATER KINNEY-dance song 97 [this is one of my favorite early SK songs...i consider "early" as anything on the first 3 records. there is a good live version of this on the yo yo a go go 1999 compilation]
BEN FOLDS-late [from "songs for silverman" the BF record i perhaps like the least. this is a solid track, i just can't seem to get invested in it like some of the earlier stuff he did]
ELLIOT SMITH-between the bars [i just get incredibly sad when i listen to elliot smith. i've never been a huge fan, but he has always haunted me]
THE DWARVES-drinking up christmas [i'm not big on xmas music but i DL'd this cuz i was DJing an xmas party a few years back. incidentally i'm also not a big fan of the dwarves, but my brother is a dwarf! haha]
FRANZ FERDINAND-tell her tonight [i love FF's first self titled record. this song and all of the others possess such a cleanliness and energy to them. really would have loved to see what would have happened with this band if they hadn't gotten all blown up right away]
THE STROKES-ask me anything [i kind of feel the same way about the strokes as i do about FF...it would have been interesting to see how they would have progressed without the distraction of fame. i have the new album, i just need to spend some quality time with it. this song, from "first impressions of earth," is not so much for me, but its not the worst thing i've ever heard. haha.]
MEGADETH-lucrietia [i gotta get my metal fix once in a while!]
THE BOOKS-the future, wouldn't that be nice [yes it would be nice. and a good, happy future. this coming a mere 12 hours after watching some crackpot on the news talk about how the end of the world is happening this weekend. i guess if there's no shuffalump #12 then that means the world ended. haha]
THE ADVANTAGE-castlevania stage 3 [this band plays all covers of original nes tunes. this shit is really good and i think it stands alone as great instrumental music]
SLY & ROBBIE- white city [an entirely spoken word track by brian blessed from the "late night tales" DJ compilation]
CATHERINE WHEEL-balloon [from the album "ferment" which is a great record. i heard them when i was 13 or 14 but never paid them much mind. then about 2 years ago i read about them on a blog and decided to give them another listen 15 years after the fact. i was definately sad i hadn't gotten into them earlier and the shoegaze in general. def some amazing bands i missed out on]
LAURA VEIRS-tom skookum road [i really like her music, but this slow instrumental bluegrassy song is a little too twangy for my liking. i'm not a fan of fiddle in general and banjo has to be just right or i can't relate to it]
UNREST-picnic at hanging rock [this song is a mid-tempo hard and noisy rocker. its not a bad song, but like unrest better when they are poppy and jangly. nice to hear them play an instrumental though.]
SNEAKER PIMPS-low five [SPs kind of lost their magic after orginal vocalist kelli dayton left the group. however, this is a standout track. it comes from the album "splinter" and is at once trippy but rocking at the same time. good shit]
VASELINES-day i was a horse [this is a quick and jumpy number about being a horse. haha. good shit]
BECK-weighted down [a blipped out skip spence cover featuring members of wilco, feist, and jamie lidell]
SUMMERCAMP-play it by ear [i like to play this song at work cuz it makes me smile. it was also featured in an episode of buffy during season 5 as was the band themselves]
REPLIKANTS-organ transplant [this is a noisy trainwrecky kind of song. i say "song" loosely cuz its mostly just electro noises and a super aicd-fuzzy low guitar for 3plus minutes]
TIMBALAND-apologize [one of those mainstream guilty pleasures of mine!]
TOTAL SHUTDOWN-2 [this is on the complilation "if the 21st century didn't exist, it would be necessary to invent it" which is probably one of the best names ever. its not a bad comp either. this song leaves a little to be desired though as i'm not a big fan of avant noise overall]
MATT SHARP-let me pass [he used to play bass in weezer back before they royally sucked. i liked him in weezer but i can't say i'm a huge fan of his solo work. its mainly that i can't get into his voice i think. this isn't that bad for an occasional listen, but it wouldn't be my first choice]
WESLEY WILLIS-rock the nation [fuck yeah! thats whay i say whenever i hear WW. his songs are bad, lewd, and all sound the same. and that is why i fucking love them!]
L7-stuck here again [this reminded me of being 14 cuz i think thats how old i was when i first heard this. i love the record this comes from "hungry for stink" it was their best if you ask me]
FREEZEPOP-plastic stars (commodore vic's sleeping dogs mix) [oh freezepop, you're so cute! i really like the original version of this song, but the remix isn't super great...plastic stars in our private galaxy...]
ANTI FLAG-no difference [i was really into AF when i was younger but not as much these days. i still really like the record this song is from "new kind of army" but sometimes justin sane's voice can get kind of whiny for my taste]
EMINEM-under the influence [yeah yeah yeah, hoosy likes a little eninem from time to time. so sue me!]
NIRVANA-all apologies (home demo)[it was a sobering realization for me when i noticed this year that i have been alive longer than kurt cobain was. true i passed this mark when i turned 28 but i didn't realize it til my 30th bday]
and there you have it!!!! the epic 30th bday shuffalump! it only took me a month to get it done! haha. and up next i have the lost shuffalump which fell between the cracks and has recently come back to light. ha! after that i think i'll go to some themed ones that i've been planning for a while. i'm also going to reboot the instrumental one i did. it didn't work out and my ipod kept picking lots of songs by the same artists so i'm going to think of something so that doesn't happen again.
stay tuned for more shit sucka mc's!!!!

-30 greatest instrumental songs ever according to SPIN. i love instrumental music and there were definately good tracks on here but conspiciously absent was "miserlou" by dick dale. "let's go trippin" did make the list but in terms of iconic status alone (all you bitches better know this song. its the one from pulp fiction), never mind energy and musical execution, it doesn't hold a candle to "miserlou"
-i was thinking the other day about people with big hair...how early in the morning do you have to get up to make the time to get so much volume? and what is the draw of getting your hair super huge anyway? (i started thinking about this while i was in line at the dmv cuz there is a guy that works there who looks like he never left the 70s and his hair takes up half the room. how early did that guy have to wake up to pull that shit off?)
-i love writers and kitties a blog that has pictures of authors and their cats.where literature has whiskers and pointy ears. hell yes!
-happiness and love is spending some really good q.t. with my 6 year old nephew. this kid rocks!
-i just crossed 21,000 songs on my ipod.
-i'm going to see anjelah johnson this saturday. funny shit is good shit and this chick is hilarious.
i still have to finish my epic 30th birthday shuffalump....why ever did i think it would be quick to do one triple the size of a normal one? haha. i need to get better with these cuz i'm an ass and start them, then forget about them, then i'm all late on them. i just suck. haha.
MOBY- the sky is broken [this song at once haunts me and gives me hope. this is from moby's wildly successful "play" album and the first time i heard it was in the episode of the x files that gillian anderson wrote and directed. she also played a big part in the musical direction of the episode and hand picked this song for it. incidentally, it is also one of my favorite episodes of the series]

-i've always really liked "a horse with no name" by america. i remember day dreaming and imagining myself on a horse in the desert whenever i heard this on the radio as a kid.
-chaz bono talks about his transition with an excerpt from his new book "transition: the story of how i became a man"
-library of congress launches the national jukebox today the Library of Congress and Sony Music Entertainment announced the launch of what's being billed as "the largest collection of historical recordings ever made publicly available online i'm def going to be checking this shit out. though you can't download shit, you can stream it, and there's recordings going all the way back to 1901. thats fucking AMAZING.
-sunny d bitches. sunny fucking D!!!!!!!!! [perfect for when i'm vegging and watching the xfiles, being a studious learner, or being responsible and going over my finances. perfect shit for any situation!]
-love is when you're yelling at someone in spanish and the person translating for you gets mad when you get mad, gets loud when you get loud, and perfectly delivers [complete with emphatic gesturing] when you say "and you tell them 'i'm not playing around!'" (i speak a small amount of spanish but not enough for me to have a full conversation. and it all goes out the window when i'm mad. hahaha)
-i've been on an xfiles kick again. i got up to season halfway through season 6 and then stopped but i picked it up again. i'm about 60something episodes away from finishing.
to waken an old lady
old age is
a flight of small
above a snow glaze.
gaining and failing
they are buffeted
by a dark wind—
on harsh weedstalks
the flock has rested—
is covered with broken
and the wind tempered
with a shrill
piping of plenty.

blaaaaaaaaaaaH!!!!!!! i'm gonna get you!!!!
-jed whedon and the willing history of forgotten things this is such a pretty record. it is brought to you by joss whedon's younger brother and frequent collaborator. joss himself does not appear on the record (to my knowledge anyway) but there is some help from felicia day which is all good in my book.
-am i the only one who loves the little word counter thing in microsoft word? just saying its a fabulous little thing!
-this will destroy you has a new album out, "tunnel blanket"
-lame tattoos are extremely amusing. and mis-spelled ones are downright fucking hilarious.
-why PopMatters doesn't want a Neutral Milk Hotel reunion
-i like me some japanther in the morning after work. yes'm i do.
-happiness is a fresh, crisp, new pair of dickies. and sleeping in them so they break in just right. oh yes.
-a guy at work just gave me a flash drive with a bunch of 70s music on it. pretty rad shit. i've never been a huge classic rock fan, but i must say it is starting to grow on me more. we have a good music trading system going on at work which is really rad. i get hooked up with new shit on a regular basis which i just love. i've heard a lot of new shit that way and been re-introduced to things i hadn't heard in forever. its what i live for.
AL GREEN-let's stay together [i want soulful lady singers and horns and slick as hell guitar to back me up in life. for real. this is a nice tune to chill out to in the morning after work and thats exactly what i'm doing right now. shit son!]
Monday, May 9, 2011
-i just downloaded mr t's commandments. for real. and then i DLd "be somebody or be somebody's fool" and then i got 2 mr. t storybook 7"s from ebay. i couldn't help myself. really i couldn't. and now my life is complete. shit son!
-just checked out BODIES OF WATER for the first time. good shit. they have a new record out next month. def interested to hear that shit.
-sebadoh is just perfect for any mix cd situation. for reals.
-being lefthanded a blog about all things southpaw.
-noise/math rock gods HELLA are working on a new album due out later this year.
-the sound and the furry a video/music blog about bearded men and indie music COME FOR THE BEARDS, STAY FOR THE MUSIC!
-i think i've mentioned before that i'm not a fan of lazy people. cuz i'm really not. f that shit.
LE SHOK- do the dramatic [i love the organ intro to this little gem that lasts a mere 1:19. everytime i hear le shok i always crave more. they only released a handful of 7"s and 1 album, "we are electrocution" which was masterful in its fast, snotty, and trashy goodness. all of their songs sound like they were recorded in a dingy bathroom which just adds to their ultimate garagey perfection. it is true too that every time i hear them i wish and hop that someday they will reunite to unleash more sonic mayhem. this is the shit i live for]

listen to this!
i didn't include a song last post cuz i had a bunch of band pics...and also cuz i kinda pretty much forgot to. haha. anyway, this time you should check out a song that is uber mainstream and the person behind it dresses in meat....yeah, yeah, hoosy has a soft spot for lady gaga, so what!? haha. anyway, "just dance" popped up on shuffle on my way home from work this morning and it just made me smile. haha. its a catchy song and i always like when it comes on at work especially. idk i'm just a dork like that.
